HypeForType was founded by designer and art director, Alex Haigh. It’s a long-term labour of love, amongst many things, but it’s also the embodiment of the ideal that you should do what you love, trust your instincts, and persevere. Fuelled by a long-term obsession for type, Alex’s design career accelerated rapidly, from his first Junior Designer role fresh out of college, to a freelance Senior Designer position at the universally admired agency AKQA, all within the space of two years. Exposure to the most talented people in their fields at AKQA is where the roots of HypeForType formed for Alex, working late until the early hours of the morning on a “typographic side project” would eventually form what is now known today as HypeForType.

We are proud to have been one of the first digital type design companies in the UK providing digital fonts to users since 1989. Demand focused by the need for fonts on the new digital machinery that had been created by the big typesetting companies to be driven by Apple Macintosh computers, firstly using Type3 font technology then shortly after by Type1 font technology. So much now has changed since those early days. No need to send floppy discs to customers by motorcycle courier, no need to print and post thousands of specimen books and leaflets to show the ever changing library of type designs. The focus is now moving slowly but inevitably to screen based devices along with the changing type technology and designs that are required to define and support typography on the new generation of internet connected technology.
